Adding and editing devices

IMPORTANT  Datto has changed the default term from Asset to Device Your Autotask instance may be configured to use one of the following terms instead: Asset, Configuration Item, Installed Asset, Installed Product., and the online help has made this change as well. If you would like to do the same in your Autotask instance, refer to Selecting a currency and local terms and symbols.

To manually create a device, populate the New Device page. To open the page, use the path(s) in the Security and navigation section above.

How do I add a device?

  1. Within an organization Your Autotask instance may be configured to use one of the following terms instead: Account, Business Unit, Client Company, Customer, Site., contact, contract, or from device search results, click New.
  2. Select the Product and Device Category. Products are hardware, software, and materials your company sells or supports for customers. The Device Category determines the available user-defined fields on device pages.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Enter information for the device. Refer to Device field descriptions for an alphabetic list of fields, descriptions, locations, and uses.
  5. Click Save & Close. If you would like to stay on the page, click Save. The page is now in edit mode, and you can make additional changes as needed.

NOTE  The device is assigned an ID upon save, which appears beneath the Device Category field. The date and time the device was created, and the user who created it, are listed beneath the Product field. To send a note to the user, click the note icon to the right of the user's name.

How do I edit a device?

  1. Within an organization, contact, contract, or from device search results, open the device and click Edit.
  2. On the Details panel on the left side of the page, or on the Main panel in the center, edit any fields that are not grayed out. Refer to Device field descriptions for an alphabetic list of fields, descriptions, locations, and uses.

NOTE  If you change the device category, it will impact the layout of the device pages.

  1. If you'd like to add a note or a product note, click New Note or New Product Note. A product note will appear with both the device and the product.
  2. To customize the notification for the device, click the Notification panel at the bottom of the window. Notification options are available for the device note only.
  3. If you'd like to add an attachment (limit of 10 MB), click New Attachment, attach the file, select the email recipient, and click Save & Close.
  4. Click Save & Close, Save & ... (Create New, Add Note, Copy).
